Gob Robbing in Liikkala

Rules

Gob Robbing - Player roles

Gob keeper

A Gob keeper guards the gob by holding the stick in the gob

Tries to dodge the Gobbet thrown by the Dag

Protects his position by hitting the Gobbet away from the gob

Steals a vacant gob to get into a better position

Dag

Tries to conquer a gob for him/herself. There are two ways to steal a gob:

1. Throwing the Gobbet at another player in the body or limbs, but not in the head or face. The Dag picks up the Gobbet after protecting it by placing his stick next to the Gobbet. Another player is not allowed to hit the Gobbet with a stick once it is protected by the Dag. Throw is always done underarm from the place where the Gobbet was picked up. An approach stretch is allowed - but the Dag cannot walk with the Gobbet in hand, nor hit the Gobbet with the stick. Picture below.

2. By stealing a vacant gob. The player whose stick is in the gob first will get possession of the gob. In contentious situations, possession is determined by RPS-system. Picture below.

How to play

The game always has two player roles: Gob keepers and Dags. The number of Dags in a game depends on the total number of players. A good thumb rule is to have 1 Dag per 5-7 Gob keepers

The aim of the game is for the Dag(s) to conquer the gob of another player (Gob keeper), and for the Gob keepers to protect their position

The game becomes faster and creates more fun, when Gob keepers try steal gobs from other Gob keepers. A Gob keeper can steal the gob of another player at any time when the gob is vacant (e.g when another Gob keeper tries to hit the Gobbet away and doesn't have his stick in the gob)

A small pothole dug in the ground, a plastic cone eith s hole, or a similar loose object

The distance between the gobs is to be approximately three steps, and they are to be randomly arranged

For example: for playing inside, a sock filled with soft material, and playing outside a short piece of bicycle inner tyre made into a knot

Stealing a gob

A vacant gob can be stolen by the Dag or by any other player

The player whose stick is in the gob first will get posession of the gob

Self refereeing of all contentious incidents: RPS (Rock - Paper - Scissors)

Hitting
Hitting

Hitting the Gobbet

The gob keepers protect themselves by hitting the Gobbet away with their sticks

Hitting is to be done along the ground

A sharp, quick, snapshot is the best

It is not allowed to lift the stick above waist level

Hitting the Gobbet towards another Gob keeper will give better protection than hitting the Gobbet to the side of the field of play

Team game

The game is divided into frames

Each player of a team is a Dag in turn. The purpose of the Dag is to tag (drop out) all Gob keepers of the opposing team

The teams have the same number of players

A frame is won by the team, whose Dag tags out all the Gob keepers of the other team first, and which has Gob keepers left in the field. Points are scored according to the number of Gob keepers left in the field

At the end, the points accrued from each frame are added together

Gob keepers help the Dag of their team by passing the Gobbet to each other or to the Dag, or by hitting the Gobbet away from the other teams' Dag

Gob keepers and a Dag can steal the gob of an opposing teams Gob Keeper. When a Gob keeper is left without a gob, the Gob keeper will be out

At the beginning of the game the gobs and Gobbets are in the playing area. The Gob keepers and Dags, stand behind a starting line, and when given permission, the Gob keepers race to conquer a gob. After two seconds, the Dags are given permission to race to the field to pick up a Gobbet, and the Dags begin to tag the opposing team's Gob keepers

The number of teams can be from 2...4 - for clarity 2 teams is preferrable
